MĚDĚNEC: MINING SITE : CULTURAL CENTER

Chloé Fumanel, Amélie Pinsard

Anotace

Located in the Krušné Hory region in the north-west of the Czech Republic, this project is set on a 6-hectare former mining site whose buildings were demolished in 2022, in the village of Měděnec. With a goal of offering future users a new space for sharing, this project is a cultural centre plus an outdoor space redesigned as a garden-museum. In order to pay tribute to its history and highlight its mining past, the cultural centre is inspired by the houses of Měděnec, and the use of corten steel in the structure, roof and carpentry refers to the tower, the only element still standing after the demolition. As for the garden-museum, a pedestrian path has been designed through the former mining buildings‘ silhouettes, with views over the landscapes of the Krušné Hory region.
