Let's design and build footbridges in the Giant Mountains with us

Students who are not afraid of paper and pencil, but also of drills, hammers, mud and snow, and who are ready to work in a team to prepare and implement a real building will qualify. The studio can be enrolled as an Atelier of Project Realization (ATRN) and Atelier of Free Assignment (ATVZ) in the Hlaváček–Čeněk studio, Kordovský studio, Mádr studio, Seho–Poláček studio and Valouch–Stibral studio.

The subject of the studio is to develop the concept of the new footbridge to the stage of detailed study, elaboration into detailed and production documentation, ensuring production, and finally physical realization on the piazzetta in front of the faculty. Transportation to the destination and installation in the Giant Mountains will be the responsibility of the administrators of the highest Czech mountains.

The Department of Architectural Design II has been cooperating with the KRNAP Administration since 2017. Five footbridges were installed in the Giant Mountains in 2019, followed by six shelters that were placed in the mountains during 2020. The last project for KRNAP so far was a mobile information kiosk at Zlaté návrší.

Last year, the set of footbridges and shelters won the award for Achievement of a Public Investor at the Krkonoše Architecture Award, the Jenga shelter of the Seho–Světlík studio was nominated for the Czech Architecture Award 2021, the Kømen shelter of the Hlaváček–Čeněk studio was nominated for the Czech Architecture Award 2020 and together with the footbridge over the Hluboká strouha won an honourable mention at the Grand Prix of Architects – National Architecture Award 2020.
