Art, craft, society. In the new FA CTU yearbook, diversity features as a strength of the school

During the academic year, more than two and a half thousand studio and final projects will be produced in almost seventy faculty studios. From a diverse range of projects, this year's curatorial team selected the best projects that present shared values across distinctive approaches and different school programs.

The yearbook is always published during the following academic year and aims to make the most hindsight. This year's curatorial team, consisting of master's student Karolína Zbytková and teachers Vojtěch Sosna and Jan Stibral, decided to define guidelines for themselves and the reader to compare otherwise difficult to compare tasks. They divided the selection of works into chapters entitled Art, Craft and Society.

"In some works, beauty prevails, where architecture, landscape or design are conceived as artistic or conceptual artefacts. In other projects, we felt the centre of gravity was in the mastery of craft, which can be represented by a well-designed apartment building that fits humbly into the urban fabric, or the perfectly mastered ergonomics of a classic object such as a chair. Very often, there are also tasks and outcomes that respond to or draw attention to a broader social phenomenon of which architecture, landscape and design are integral parts," the curators explain. In addition to a selection of these, the reader will find in the yearbook a summary of the most important events of the academic year, publications published or an extensive index of studio assignments.

Also this year, the pages are interspersed with a guest artist's contribution, this time a poetic ode to the city in photographs by Anna Ritterová, a graduate of the FA CTU. In her work, she records the life of the city, immortalizing magical moments of the interplay of light, shadow and colour.

The yearbook is available for purchase at the IKAN press centre on the ground floor of the FA CTU. Gradually it will also become available in selected bookstores (Page Five, Kavka Book, Juditina věž) and in the KOSMAS network.
