Transformation of the socialist housing estate in Kolin

The work focuses on the spatial problems of the socialist housing estates, divides them according to different scales to problems at the level of the city, location, block, house and apartment. The analysis of the spatial structure of the estates on several different levels allows to decipher their mutual relations, and to propose strategies that solve them in a long term. The design itself is an application of these strategies to a specific location of the central part of the estate in Kolin and to one type of the socialist residential towers in the given area. The work explores the possibility of approaching the revitalization projects as a design of a process coordinating different aspects in different scale levels, therefore designing tools enabling a gradual transformation rather than a definitive solution.
