Annotation

Urban planning and architekctural design revitalizes a neglected urban district under the hill of New town in Liberec. Disrupted urban structure is completed without losing its character and scale. Existing relations to the historical centre of the city are strengthened, new ones emerge. Papírové square with the gallery located in a former factory building and a new community center become important junctions of the territory. Terraces on southern slopes provide place to rest as well as view over the city and Ještěd mountain. New secluded places, small squares and pedestrian connections emerge in the structure. Apartment buildings provide, in addition to housing, enough space for small shops and offices on the ground floor. New blocks alternate mass of the houses with areas of semi-private courts and thus provide a plenty of free space and views, while ensuring sufficient density of people and events.
