Annotation

The development of cities, their growth and conception is an increasingly frequently mentioned topic not only among architects, but often also among the non-expert public. The popularity of this topic among the general public is undoubtedly aided by the housing shortage associated with rising property prices or the notoriously lengthy legislative permitting process. Cities are growing in an uncoordinated way, with monotonous neighbourhoods of family houses on their outskirts, often without a single idea of what direction the development should take. A guide to development may be to recall how cities were built, how they are structured, who lives in them, and how they are served. These ideas led me to my thesis, which aims to create compact urban development. The opportunity for the realization of this task came in my hometown of Písek. The city of Písek currently, as one of the few cities, has a large development area within the urban structure. The city's efforts to work with the area have reached the stage of a planning study approved by the city council, which currently serves as a basis for decision-making in the area. The ambition of the thesis is to build on the initiative started by the city and to develop part of the territory in a detail that will offer a better idea of the possibilities of the character of the public spaces, the typologies of the houses and the inhabitants themselves.
