Circle & Square

Annotation

Design of a kindergarten for a new garden district in Modřany. The main role is played by the basic geometry, Kolečko (atrium) and Čtvereček (building). The scheme is very similar to the floor plans of Renaissance villas by Andrea Palladia. The building is made of concrete and has 4 colored niches, which mark the entrances and divide the building into 4 parts. The grate made of glued wooden beams, bearing a green roof, defines a grid to which all layouts, facades and openings in the roof are subordinated. The grate protrudes from the building towards the atrium and, together with corrugated polycarbonate, covers the outdoor road against rain. The areas facing the atrium are glazed and the facades to the street without a single window. Towards the garden, the building opens again and thanks to this, the children can see from the garden, through the building, to the atrium. They are surrounded by nature, even though they are just surrounded by a building.
