Library Na Špačkárně

The Victorious February 1948 was an event in which the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia had taken control over the Czechoslovakia.  It had influenced the political direction as well as cultural orientation of the republic for the next forty-two years. In the first period of their rule, the communists used the most brutal methods of suppressing any opposition: trials, liquidation of opponents, closing the borders to the west. The pressure was especially focused on artists because of their faith, and those who sympathized with avant-garde modernity. The Na špačkárně library is a place of peace and a refuge for books that were forbidden under the previous regime.
