Monument in honour of the victims of the Iron Curtain

Petr Matiasovits

Annotation

The symbol of the memorial to the victims of the Iron Curtain is to unite what was violently torn in the 20th century. Its purpose is to cross the mental line between the past and the present. The motive is the use of the original construction, which caused fear for its purpose. The addition of a second ladder, which allows the dominant to be overcome, transports us across the imaginary boundary of the past. Climbing evokes self-awareness and helps to induce a sense of reconciliation. To understand, we must do something so that we can find freedom. The reference on the plaques is reminiscent of villages, settlements and solitudes, which disappeared in the forbidden zone of the Iron Curtain. They set out a 10 km radius, the center of which is the defunct village of Oldřichov.
