Three levels of Aspern

Annotation

||||| avenue – latin: advenire – to arrive at, to reach, to come to ||||| The Gehl’s urban plan for Aspern Seestadt revives the public space archetypes in the context of a contemporary city – lake as the central main square, ringstrasse as a connecting element and chaussée for the main road connecting the rail station with the core of the neighbourhood. It examines the possibility of building a neighbourhood for the 21st century in the continuity of the usual planning principles of a compact city and includes concept of functional strains, which determine life in the streets. Our aim was to design in detail the main road-chaussée and its vicinity as the part that creates the identity of the whole neighbourhood.
