Aula Magna

The Aula Magna of Charles University together with the Krenn house fill the last empty places in the Old Town Square. The Aula is settled between the Town Hall and the Krenn house, set back from all the surrounding buildings. This restores the original shape of the Old Town Square and the Kuří market, with the aula itself acting as a counterpoint to the dominant house U zvonu on the opposite side. The ground floor consists of a massive network of vaults, made up of ellipsoid cut-outs, which react to the historic vaults and arches in the square. The entire ground floor is conceived as an integral, undivided space that is accessible to the public from all sides. The auditorium is located on the second floor 6m above the level of the square.
