connecting city center of Ostrava and Dolní Vítkovice

The subject of the urban design are 3 separate areas of Ostrava (Karolina (+ Na Soutoku) – Pod Žofinkou – Vítkovice), which, till this day, are not effectively interconnected and not even with the right bank of the river Ostravice. Main reason for this situation is that the “island” Pod Žofinkou cut off by railways, leading to right bank of the river. It’s important part of Ostrava and these railways should be an active element of city’s infrastructure in the future. Not doubting the importance of the railways, they cut the much needed “artery” for development of these three key areas, so an wide main street was proposed, with tram leading through the area of Pod Žofinkou, which would lead to connection between Vítkovice and Karolina.
