Former textile factory conversion

Jana Minaříková

Annotation

The building of former textile factory Karnola in Opava does not fulfill its original function today. After the fire, the building did not undergo reconstruction and due to poor static conditions it did not find any other use and has been falling into disrepair ever since. The current state of the building and its immediate surroundings arouses fear rather than making full use of its potential defined by its location and connection to the river. The original structural three-section of the factory is undergoing spatial modifications within new design. Valuable parts of the building are designed for demolition, the existing building is extended on the basis of structural contrast respecting the original grid of the skeletal supporting system. A twisting ramp goes up through the building.
