CULTURE GARDEN OF PRAGUE CASTLE

Štěpán Beneš

Annotation

The production gardens are part of a garden belt around Prague Castle. Like the Royal Garden, the gardens are separated from the Castle itself by a Deer Moat. On the north side, it borders with Jelení Street and baroque fortifications. The gardens have been inaccessible for public since 2005. Visitors are thus prohibited from entering almost 4 hectares of park and garden area in direct contact with the historic center of Czech kings. The overall urbanism of the garden and its surroundings is strongly inspired by the ideas of Václav Havel. Based on his ideas, I open the garden to the public, add a library building, an outdoor auditorium and modify its urban concepts. The final intervention is the connection of Hradčanská boulevard and Deer moat through a tunnel.
