Long-term care hospital Barrandov

Annotation

How to design a house with the ambition of healing in the context of a suburban housing estate? My starting point was the understanding of the place as an open wild meadow. By placing the hospital on the edge of the plot, I’m spatially defining a part of the meadow, that will be preserved. The project introduces a three-storey hospital with three departments on each floor. The unit opens in the direction of the meadow. My aim was to enable the housebound patients to benefit from the natural surroundings. Rooms are enlarged by a generous balcony. The view outside becomes a symbol of hope and a strong motivation to get up. Let the long days of treatment be filled with the singing of the birds, watching the shadows of the trees and listening to the beat of the rain.
