In the beginning, it was a shelf that didn't fit in my apartment because of the new plan. But it was still solid pieces of wood, and when I was thinking of a chair at the time, I felt like I had to make it out of that. It had been in the closet for over 50 years and now it wouldn't fit because of the washing machine. I wanted to make a solid chair that would last, that I would still be able to tell what it was originally, and that would be comfortable. The core of the chair, consisting of two cut-outs from the original side ladder, with the shortened shelves nailed to it, forms the sides of the chair. This core provides spatial rigidity but also gives the opportunity to play freely with the seat and back angles, which are essential for a comfortable chair. Nails are used as joints, just l
