Theatre on a bastion

Ondřej Hodač

Annotation

Theater refers to the wooden theater sheds and arenas from the interwar period, one of the most famous of which stood precisely on the bastion of the old walls on the site of the National museum. The concept of the shapes of the building and its facade was to combine the elements of the walls, such as massiveness and height, and the theater curtain, which resembles the walls with its meaning of a distinct boundary between two environments. The shape of the theater thus resembles a medieval town with different levels and its own moat. The facade copies the wavy fabric of the curtain and emphasizes it with alternating material. Internal public and service spaces are oriented according to the design of the building program by "Vosto5".
