Library, Milano

The form a library, located in a park alongside Pallazzo del Senato in Milano, stems from the position of the trees therein. The main aim was to find an efficient way to prevent the trees from being cut down while using them for benefits of the library. The central part of the building is intended to serve primarily the purpose of group meetings. In addition to that, the library offers quiet study rooms, a cafe, a bookshop and a variable room. The framing of the whole complex by a brick wall creates usable exterior spaces, and consequently interconnections within the library between the interior and exterior. Wall openings enable the visitors to peek outside. Material-wise, a combination of brick, wood and glass was used.
