Abrahamic Farewell

Award

Annotation

Westfriedhof - not only a cemetery of historical relevance, but also today a place for everyone. This is where all different communities of Köln come together for their last farewell and become equal in death. Jewish, Christian and Muslim people are buried here in close proximity. The three abrahamic religions not only have the same origins and similar funeral rituals, but also symbolically show their lived closeness in the city at this cemetery. The mourning process is common to all people, regardless of their religion, and is as much a part of the cemetery as the burial itself. Westfriedhof - a place of the last farewell and coming together.
