Jablonec library

The design is a replacement for already unsuitable library in Jablonec nad Nisou. It examines one of the possible locations, a seemingly unsuitable plot, quite far from centre and next to a busy road. The design is in harmony with a new transport terminal, new housing development and a general improvement of the river Nisa waterfront, which a library would help uplift. The design of the building is a solitaire with an ellipse plan, given by the shape of the plot and an absence of any buldings nearby. The library is complemented by a hall, a gallery and a café on the ground floor, with both open and closed stacks on the remaining floors and a roof garden on top. The facade attempts to act as a solid barrier protecting the inside, broken with only the minimum of windows to provide sunlight.
