RAINBOW MONASTERY HULVÁKY

Michal Pospíšil

Annotation

The entrance gate to the eastern part of Ostrava, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, also known as the Hulváky interchange. The complex of buildings designed for this location consists of a dominant observation tower located in an old tram loop, an administrative building, a multifunctional building, and the completion of the Duhový dům (Rainbow House). The project has several conceptual ingredients. The main one is the expansion of newly built social housing, which gave rise to the metaphorical idea of a monastery-like arrangement with various functions. Other influences include the surrounding urban features such as 28. října Street, which runs through almost the entire Ostrava, and the adjacent Benátky forest park. However, the experience of visiting the site was crucial.
