Parliament on the wold

Julie Polanecká, Gabriela Šavelová

Annotation

Our main goal was to design a parliament building that would not only serve government purposes, but that would serve people and at the same time create a new landmark for Prague without disturbing its rich rooftop landscape. The main dominant feature of the building is the spacious atrium, which serves as the main communication space across the parliament. It resembles a vast ravine, illuminated by daylight, through which footbridges and spiral staircases lead. The tree-like columns in the atrium become real trees in the exterior. On the ground floor, there are halls complemented by public spaces such as a library, cafe, restaurant, kindergarten or fitness, thanks to which the parliament functions as an independent town and provides employees with everything they need.
