GALLERY 315

Ihor Labetskyi

Annotation

The proposed gallery is located on a large parking lot near the so-called Tyrš House, which historically, and even today, houses the Czech community of Sokol. The general aim of the design was to transform the unsightly brownfield into a beautiful, high-quality, and accessible public square with the gallery building as the local dominant of it. The gallery structure consists of three floors and stretches across the Čertovka river towards the Old Town. Six massive concrete pillars serve as supports for the construction and house fire staircases, elevators, and utility cores. The green roof features a system of differently sized circular skylights, allowing light to penetrate the exhibition spaces below. The building includes a café, a bookstore, and an underground parking facility.
