Mělník: Charles IV. Square

Bc. Marika Chovanová, Bc. Viktoria Nováková

Annotation

The square with unsuitale buildings from the seventies is located on the edge of the historical centre of Mělník. The design consists of the completion of two residential blocks with an active parter. The new building of the solitaire municipal library is inserted between the blocks. The library has a heavy facade made of pigmented concrete. The streets that surround the municipal library on both sides become part of the square. Municipal library stands in the centre of a generous square. One street is axially oriented to the Masaryk Cultural Center, the other one to the Gothic tower of the Prague Gate. In the northern block, townhouses are partly designed as a certain type of housing in an urban environment. The goal was a combination of individual housing and an apartment buildings.
