Flora Film Factory

This semester’s “Flybox” project topic sets the basis for structural very extraordinary design. On the property of a water tank in Prague’s district Flora, a Film school and Student housing is to be planned. The special feature is, that the tank must be built over without supports. These pre requirements, lead us to our concept of the flying cantilever, supported by one standing volume on the south side. The appearance of the cantilever is underlined, by the monumental staircase which meets the building volume diagonally from the opposite direction. Structurally, we work with two truss beams on the longer sides, which are supported by concrete cores. From these trusses, we span over the tank with a vierendeel system to create our floors.
