Fake News: Pensioners

Annotation

Misinformation among pensioners is a serious problem that affects their behaviour and attitudes. Pensioners are often the target of misinformation spread by social media, alternative news sites or other people. This information creates fear and uncertainty, leading to irrational decisions. Retirees are susceptible to manipulation and have limited ability to filter information. Education and promotion of media literacy are key to preventing the spread of misinformation. The solution lies in short educational videos (approx. 2 min), broadcast before and after programmes on TV, which seniors often watch. The repetition of the same episodes helps seniors to better understand and remember key information, which facilitates the recognition of misinformation and activates critical thinking.
