HOUSING OLŠANSKÁ
Annotation
Do you visit cemeteries? There’s a peaceful calm here, with graves of all shapes and tree branches obscuring the sky. Light still breaks through. I count the years on headstones and think about the lives behind them. Mourning music plays in the distance, leaves crunch underfoot. It’s easy to get lost in Olšany Cemetery, but I don’t mind.
Have you ever refueled on Olšanská Street? A study by Unit Architects envisions tree-lined avenues, bike paths, and new buildings. A high-rise is replacing the old telephone exchange. Between the Foreign Police and the Chapel of St. Roch, a project is planned to link old and new Žižkov.
I imagine a city as a porous sponge, full of hidden nooks and life. Olšanská Street could be a clear line with low houses, courtyards, balconies, and barefoot paths.
