RUST

Deformation. Deformation of the body, only for the purpose of achieving an imagined ideal of beauty. Pain. I want to highlight how deeply rooted the pressure for perfection is, and the pain that comes with aesthetic modifications. Perfection. At what cost. I use rust as a powerful symbol of destruction. The destruction of metal by water, rust, the destruction of the body by the corset. Corset. Rust. A strong symbol of decay and degradation. A symbol – as powerful and brutal as the idea of voluntary self-destruction. Through my installation, I would like to draw attention to this phenomenon, which society accepts as a norm, and to the thin line between beauty and permanent deformation.
