Pieta of Sunlight

The memorial space at Ptačí vrch is designed as a geometric, angular mass contrasting with the conical roof penetration. Another contrast is the constant interplay of light and shadow, which guides the visitor through the entire space. Parts of the space consumed by shadow evoke a sense of emptiness, silence, and calm, while the rays of light are meant to symbolize a certain hope, like light at the end of a dark tunnel. The light filtering through the roof perforation is centralized into one point, marking the main final stop on the visitor’s journey.
