House for Pénelope

Bc. Terézia Jancíková

Annotation

The work is inspired by an ancient Greek story written by Homer Odysseus, in which the beautiful queen Penelope is devotedly waiting for her king Odysseus. Her devotion and loyalty are the initial inspiration for the "House for Penelope" project. The Cubic building is divided into two parts and situated on the coast of their native Ithaca. Contrast has been the core principle used throughout the design. The building’s public side is cold and busy, thanks to the inconspicuous doors and the massive covered staircase. The private part is open and full of hope, represented by a tall entry, where Penelope waits every day for the only man her heart desires.
