The location itself is very quiet, so the reading room is an open corridor, functioning mainly as a lee. It also connects the eastern view of the city and the bay with the western view of the hilly pastures. Because the building is mostly sunk into the ground, it does not significantly disturb the surrounding landscape, but at the same time, thanks to its characteristic shape, it can become an iconic building of the local park and Cavehill mountain.
