František Bilek´s House

House for the Art Nouveau sculptor and architect František Bílek. The building consists of a pair of masses: a glazed airy atelier and a massive solid apartment serving as a background. In the design I was inspired by Bílek's house in Chýnov and also by the sculpture of the Angel of Death, which is one of Bílek's largest and most significant sculptures. In addition to the elevated atelier, the interior space is dominated by a spiral staircase leading to the first floor, from where one can observe the master at work.
