Helmut Newton house

Klára Očadlíková

Annotation

The house with a studio and residential spaces of the world-renowned photographer Helmut Newton is located at the very edge of the exhibition in Kampa. Although Newtons main focus were exterior photographs with journalistic elements, he also passed on his provocative themes through photographs of interiors. Therefore, the designed atelier does not contain places with a given purpose or direct functionality. It is possible to divide the lighted space with movable panels, which also serve as exhibition areas. The maisonette atelier is interfaced by a staircase connecting the other two floors – a closed pure white studio with rounded corners and a private office. Below the studio, the living part of the house is set in the terrain, which creates a private garden around the entire building.
