House with studio for František Skála

Matyáš Mlček

Annotation

Our task was to design a house with a studio for artists on the island of Štvanice. My clear choice was František Skála. My goal was to design a house that would not only be a comfortable environment for the artist, but also a reference to his work. Since František Skála most often works with organic materials and shapes, I decided to go for an organic shape and chose wood as the material. I divided the house into two equal parts, a studio and a living room, which are separated by a free mezzanine. Before designing, I took some time to get into the work to get it under my consciousness. Other inspirations for me were the work of Japanese architect Shigeru Ban and Italian architect Renzo Piano.
