THE GALLERY OF KAREL PRAGER

Jan Hybl

Annotation

Karel Prager was an important Brutalist architect active from the 1950s to the turn of the new millennium. His designs were often visionary and megalomaniacal. The aim of the gallery is to impress the visitor with massive concrete structures that create a certain overlap and surround the visitor not only in the interior but also in the exterior. The whole work is a kind of play with scale, in which the work is meant to be visually larger than it actually is, and thus deceive the visitor. The building forms a visitor circuit, during which the visitor discovers all three floors, one of which is sunken into the ground. The work includes a stand-alone elevator on the exterior that allows mobility for people in wheelchairs.
