House for Penelope

Annotation

In this project, I tried to capture the emotions that Penelope was experiencing during the 10-year wait for the arrival of her greatest love. And at the same time, I wanted to create a space where she can alway look down at the sea with the hope that she will see Odysseus' sailboat. That's why I decided to design a tower and not a one or two storey house. The stairs are designed so that together they evoke turning in a circle as a symbol of daily waiting with no apparent end. The tower has several large openings, not only to symbolize incompleteness, but especially so that Penelope can look out for Odysseus from all sides. For this reason, the staircase from the 2nd to the 3rd floor goes around the tower and is not in the interior.
