MILAN KUNDERA GALLERY

Ella Kolomazníková

Annotation

As an inspiration for this design of gallery was a Czech novel autor Milan Kundera. His work combines political criticism with erotic comedy and philosophical speculation. The idea behind this gallery is transferring typical stereotypes of Kundera’s book characters, a man and a woman, into features suitable for a building design. Some used representations from Kundera’s novels are for example contrasts between body and soul, lightness and heaviness, extraordinaire and ordinaire. The woman part of this design symbolises heaviness, half of this building is below surface. On the other hand, the building of the man is a bit lifted from the ground, as a symbolism of lightness. There is an element connecting both buildings demonstrating the communication and distance separating the couple.
