House for Pénelope

Veronika Kostúrová

Annotation

The house for Penelope is a poetic expression of Penelope's persistent waiting for Odysseus, embodying the essence of patience, resilience and unwavering loyalty, it creates a safe haven. The connection to the sea, a recurring motive in the Odyssey, is embedded in the very essence – the House is situated on a cliff with a good view of the sea and surrounding countryside offering Penelope a visual connection to Odysseus' sea journey and a source of comfort during her wait. The shape of the house also follows from this idea. Sections of the roof are walkable and gradually rise upwards with a spacious observation deck at the end where Penelope can immerse herself in her thoughts and the endless horizon.
