Tokyo Story Gallery

Samuel Güttner

Annotation

In the design of the gallery, the artist focuses on the intersection of architecture and the film "Tokyo story". The film "Tokyo Story" (1952) by the Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu explores the beauty of the everyday and breaks down the traditional Western notion of cinema with its casual style. Instead of focusing on plot and fast-paced action, it explores hidden thought processes and unspoken wisdom. After a detailed analysis of the film, the author focuses on diagramming the unspoken emotional tension so important to the film, as well as the principle of the cycle of life. Finally, he also took the film's layering technique from the film. The result is a sculpturally conceived gallery space with distinctive red stairs separating the open space from the closed one.
