NOVÝ SVĚT - MONASTERY

The new monastery is composed by three main elements, the public library, the chapel and the open chapel. The main idea it’s to turn the space into a big public space accessible to everyone from the both entrances, making it a contemplation and meditation space in the centre of Prague and at the same time isolated from the urban atmosphere. The building technique combine reinforced concrete with the rocks from the excavation in a way to return to the site and the nature of the terrain, turning into a very rough material, almost organic but with strong angles in the walls, and for the paving, finer rocks from the excavation, making it a softer material for the walking areas even on the inside of the monastery.
