The Monastering

This semester we had the chance to work on an exceptional site: a large area of vegetation punctuated by trees, close proximity to Prague Castle, a slope with great potential, and finally the site faces the exceptional district of Nový Svět. The monastery project is mostly underground. It is crossed by a main axis starting from the street and ending with the chapel. It acquires this spiritual dimension by levitating above this glass façade, the monks' refectory. Several lighting devices have been installed, adapted to each space. While offering a sumptuous view of Nový Svět, the roof of the monastery is in keeping with a logic of respect for the territory by being camouflaged in the site. The roof is at first soil and then emerges from the ground to signify the monastering.
