Adaptive re-use is often mentioned as a tool with which to preserve threatened values and presented as sustainable development strategy. However, the conversion of structure to serve a different purpose almost always requires interventions and changes to adapt it to the new function. How far such interventions go will determine if the conversion ad functional transformation is not, paradoxically, to efface the assets that led to decision conserve the industrial site in the first place.
