Two essential characteristics of urban sustainability are social and physical structure and their balance within the area. “Bad image” is usually representation of such disbalance within or between these categories. This may cause both interventions or obstacles regarding further development. The paper focuses on particular steps and relevances of wrong perceived neighbourhoods. It presents the “second sights” showing that the social structure may be able to compensate the physical one (and on the other hand wrong physical transformation can destroy the vitality).

The retail typology has undergone a precipitous development in the 20th century. While the original shop created a lively public space thanks to its orientation towards street, today's shopping mall is the exact opposite. The shopping mall typology originating from suburban realm does not really fit into an existing city tissue because of its scale and introvert orientation. However, recent development shows the shopping mall typology might be outdated which would offer a possibility to introduce new design solutions.

In the following paper I am taking stock of the Central train station area development (CTSAD) project, and I argue for conceiving it as a specific type of strategic urban project, yet more complex and challenging. First part of the paper is dedicated to general framing of the strategic urban projects, describing their nature and typical challenges. In the second part, the specifics of CTSAD projects are identified in three specific dimensions: the inner city development site, the transportation node and the railway station building. As I argue, these features amplify the challenges as well as potentials of this kind of project

This research is focused on the public space in the intravilan of the countryside. Its topic is the phenomenon of rurality, the rural character as a value associated with the form of environment of rural settlements. The objective is to find, evaluate and describe the basic attributes and relations in space which co-create rurality, and to do it in such a way so that these findings could eventually be used in practice - e. g. in the intravilan's public space design in order to strengthen the rural features of the environment.
