We celebrated 45 years of the independent Faculty of Architecture of CTU

On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, we marked the 45th anniversary of the re-establishment of an independent faculty at a festive gathering of the academic community in Bethlehem Chapel. During the course of the afternoon and early evening, we presented the Felber Medal, the CTU Medal and the Faculty of Architecture Medal, launched two books and opened two exhibitions. In the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery, Dean Ladislav Lábus announced the winners of the first year of the Dean's Award competition.

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the re-establishment of the independent Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, personalities who have achieved significant achievements in scientific, pedagogical and artistic activities were awarded.

The evening was hosted by Petr Vacek and the musical accompaniment was provided by the Ypsilon Theatre ensemble – Martin Dejdar, Jan Jiráň, Jiří Lábus, Adéla Pashaev Škopková sang and Hana Franzová played the organ. During the ceremony, the management and staff of the Faculty of Architecture wore new gowns designed by Prof. Liběna Rochová for the first time.

The Felber Medal

are awarded as a tribute to employees for significant teaching and scientific activities for the benefit of CTU.

The Felber Medal I. degree gold was awarded to prof. Ing. arch. Jan Jehlík, Head of the Department of Urban Design of the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU, for his long-term and significant pedagogical and scientific-research activity and its beneficial influence on the development of urbanism in the Czech Republic. He also received the award for his significant achievements in the field of architecture and spatial planning, both as an architect and as a representative of the state administration.

The Felber Medal I. degree gold was awarded to prof. Ing. arch. Karel Maier, CSc., Head of the Department of Spatial Planning of the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU, for his many years of successful teaching and scientific activities and long-term contribution to the development of the Faculty in the fields of science, research and abroad, especially during the times when he repeatedly held the position of Vice-Dean for these activities.

Medals of CTU

are awarded to personalities who have made significant contributions to the development of the University at home or abroad.

Medal of CTU - II. degree - SILVER was awarded to RNDr. Dana Kolářová, for her extraordinary contribution to the teaching of descriptive geometry at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU and her personal creative efforts, which lead to increasing the prestige and promotion of geometry in the teaching of architects. Dr. Kolářová's many years of active work in the Academic Senate of the CTU and dedicated cooperation with the management in the application of the Methodology of Resource Allocation at the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU are also appreciated.

Medals of FA CTU

These medals are awarded to employees who have made a significant contribution to the development of the faculty.

Medal of FA CTU was awarded to Ing. arch. Naděžda Goryczková

for extraordinary merits in the development of Czech conservation focused on newer architecture, for cooperation with university research related to the understanding and protection of architectural heritage of the last century. The award is also given for the development of knowledge of industrial heritage and its heritage values and for a number of research, exhibition and scientific-popularization activities in the field of architectural conservation.

doc. Ing. arch. Petr Hlaváček

The medal is awarded for exceptional contribution to the social significance and promotion of the field of architecture and urban planning and for service at the Institute of Planning and Development and the Prague City Municipality. The award is also given for creative work as Vice Dean for Development and significant teaching activities in the subjects of Building Science and Development.

Ing. arch. Jan Kasl

for his significant contribution to the development of the capital city of Prague and architecture and urbanism in his role as mayor and chairman of the Czech Chamber of Architects, as well as for his own work.  The awardee has also long collaborated with the CTU and FA CTU in various professional bodies and committees.

doc. Ing. arch. Patrik Kotas

for his significant contribution and influence on the establishment and development of the Department of Design and the Design study programme at the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU in Prague, including his role as a programme supervisor, and for his long-term pedagogical activity at the Faculty of Architecture and other CTU units. The award is also given for significant influence on the design of mass transport and buildings and for its popularisation.

prof. Ing. arch. Roman Koucký

for his significant works in the field of architecture and urban planning, as well as for his leading role in the elaboration of the Metropolitan Plan of the City of Prague and for his tireless social commitment from the popularization of architecture to highly expert work in the field of urban planning.

The award is also given for outstanding teaching work in which he leads students to a comprehensive understanding of the architectural profession.

prof. Ing. arch. Bohumil Kováč, CSc.

for his significant contribution to the field of urbanism and spatial planning during his long and successful tenure at the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava and for his long and beneficial cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU.

prof. Ing. arch. Vladimír Krátký

for many years of successful pedagogical activity as head of the studio at the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU and for his cooperation in the reconstruction of the faculty teaching centre – Tuláček Farm in Kruh. The award is also given for significant implementations of administrative and residential buildings whose convincing quality is based on a sensitive interconnection of various aspects of design.

prof. PhDr. Petr Kratochvíl, CSc.

for his significant contribution to the history and theory of modern and contemporary architecture, for outstanding research results and for his rich publishing and curatorial activities. The award is also given for many years of work in the field of architectural education, especially in the scientific council of the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU, in the disciplinary council Architecture – Theory and Creation and in professional committees.

Ing. arch. Pavla Kvízová

for many years of successful teaching activity at the Department of Interior Design of the FA CTU and the management of the studio Fundamentals of Architectural Design, which is very successful in terms of quality assessment and popularity of students. In her studio teaching, she instilled in her students the prism of architectural vision of space and composition of materials and was indomitable in her passion for guiding students through many iconic buildings and inspiring them to think creatively.

Ing. arch. Pavol Paňák

for his fundamental contribution to the development of Czechoslovak and Slovak architecture and for their significant architectural works that combine the latest architectural trends with a judicious recognition of traditional cultural values at the highest level of quality. He is also appreciated for his ability to communicate his deep knowledge of architecture with all modesty to students of the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava and the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU in Prague.

Ing. Pavel Štěpán (on behalf accepted by Ing. arch. Vít Štěpán)

The medal is awarded for many years of teaching activity at the FA CTU – Department of Building Construction I and for a significant contribution to the development of cooperation between the faculty and professional engineering organizations. The awardee has long been active in the Authorization Board of the Czech Chamber of Architects and in various faculty committees – for defences, habilitations and nominations, as well as in the Scientific and Arts Council of the FA.

The modern history of the Faculty of Architecture in Prague is summarized in the book Vzpomínky a poznámky (Memories and Notes), which was published on the occasion of the anniversary of the teaching of architecture at the CTU in Prague in the years 1920–2020. Its author is the prominent Czech architectural historian and FA teacher Professor Vladimír Šlapeta.

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the restoration of its independence, the faculty published the publication Architektura dnes 1976–2021. Alma mater dnes (Architecture Today 1976–2021. Alma Mater Today), in which it presents important personalities of Czech architecture and their realizations. All of these personalities teach at the faculty at the same time, mainly as heads of design studios. The editor of the book is Prof. Matúš Dulla. The book was launched during an evening opening in the neighbouring Jaroslav Fragner Gallery.
