Final projects

Santa Maria Novella - railway station

Bc. Jakub Vágner

Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

The project is located in Florence, Italy. It aims to replace scattered bus stations with a new unified terminal, which is placed on a platform atop the railyard of Santa Maria Novella - Railway Station. The design is inspired by sketches of one of the station’s author, Giovanni Michelucci. The roof is formed by two overlaying levels of tree-like structures. Gaps between the levels allow diesel fumes to escape. The bus platform is carried by mushroom-shaped pillars to reduce the thickness of the concrete slab. The platform is connected to the concourse of the railway station to ensure better connectivity between different types of transport.
