National film archive

The National Film Archive is an important institution, which takes care of our cultural heritage. Current status and fragmented settlements is unsatisfactory and thus seek new place for a unified headquaters. In the center of Prague we are constantly looking for new construction sites, often destroying old, valuable buildings, while department stores from the twentieth century are now unprofitable and have no benefits for the neighbourhood, so there is a question of adaptation to a new, better function.  Department store Máj was well designed by architects from SIAL and has many architectural qualities. That’s why it was added to a list of protected buildings. It also offers an attractive location right in the city center with great accessability.  The purpose of my work is to check whether the building of department store is suitable for adaptation to the National Film Archive and the Film Museum.
