Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

This diploma thesis reimagines an obsolete oil platform in the Adriatic Sea as a cutting-edge marine research center, addressing pressing environmental challenges through a symbiotic relationship between architecture and the marine environment. The design integrates state-of-the-art laboratories, sustainable aquaculture, and renewable energy technologies within the existing offshore structure. The thesis investigates microplastic remediation using mussel farms, algae cultivation to combat ocean acidification, and harnessing tidal and wave energy for a self-sufficient energy system. Through detailed analysis of material solutions, structural enhancements, and sustainable design, the project demonstrates architecture's ability to contribute to the health and resilience of the Adriatic Sea. This adaptive reuse serves as a model for transforming offshore infrastructure in a changing world.
