MENTAL HEALTH CARE, PRAGUE

The diploma thesis follows the Strategy for the Reform of Psychiatric Care approved by the Ministry of Health in 2013 by finding a suitable location and designing a mental health centre in Prague. It is one of the four fundamental pillars of mental health care reform. It provides long-term psychiatric care and social rehabilitation in the client's natural environment. I am locating the proposal on the edge of Central Park in the Jižní Město housing estate, and the building programme responds to both the need for a mental health centre and the lack of public amenities on this site. The location of the building on the edge of the park forms a kind of entrance to the park, and at the same time the park flows into the estate through it. The proposed pedestrian routes respect the existing routes in use and form long sightlines on a large estate scale.
