The Forgotten Quarry

The grand yet picturesque Quarry "Pětka" (Quarry no. 5) on its own leaves a strong impression on one. It is unique in a sense that it is very noticeably marked by its past. Throughout the 20th century, this area (Lipnice nad Sázavou) was dominated by the granite mining industry. On site we can find ruins of granite/brick houses, rusty bases of some industrial machines and so on. However these traces are gradually disappearing as the area is becoming more and more vandalized and overflowing with litter. The goal of this project is not to transform it completely, but rather to highlight the qualities this place already has. It is aiming to find a way to raise questions in a new-coming visitor and to achieve mutual respect.
