Žatec - Golden Island

Havlíčkovo square in Žatec is located to the west of the center in a part of town called Podměstí. The old organic layer of the area, of which only the church of St. Wenceslas from the 13th century left, was covered in the second half of the 20th century completely by new buildings, which significantly changed the character of the locality into a completely urban state compared to the original finer state, when the individual houses were adjoined by orchards and fields. The area was called an "island" because it was crossed by a drive from the river Ohře, which also no longer exists today. The concept aims at creating a unified space adapted to diverse events and reflecting all layers.
